Abu Dhabi announces launch of a new smart parking service

The smart parking system will soon be rolled out across Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi-based smart mobility company Q Mobility is set to launch a new smart parking experience in the capital. It will essentially use smart technology which allows automatic deduction for parking fee payments via the Darb app wallet, ensuring a smoother and more seamless journey for drivers.

Q Mobility uses advanced technology and the service reflects Abu Dhabi’s vision for smarter, more connected mobility solutions.

A video shared by Q Mobility states that the new system will make traffic flow more efficient and provide a smooth and secure parking experience. More importantly, it will help reduce fines for non-payment.

How does it work?

Well, the system will automatically scan and recognise the car’s licence plate number through the use of AI-powered cameras. It will note the start time of the parking session in the system, and once you leave, the cameras will note the time your parking session ends.

The amount will be auto-deducted from your Darb account, and users will receive a notification of the payment.

Signboards in the area will state the cost of parking per hour. All drivers have to do is ensure they have sufficient balance in their Darb wallet, with violations subjected to fines. No ticket, no cash, no scanning or other manual actions. It’s also a step in the right direction on the sustainability front.

The smart parking system will be available at key locations across Abu Dhabi. According to Gulf News, this includes multi-storey parking facilities and selected private parking areas. Plans are in place for a gradual expansion to additional sites across the emirate.
