Dubai is known for its strict rules and regulations, and while some fines are obvious, others might completely catch you off guard. Whether you’re a resident or just visiting, it’s worth knowing the small things that could end up costing you hundreds… or even thousands of dirhams. Here are some of the things that could get you fined in Dubai you’ll want to avoid.
Jaywalking
Think twice before crossing wherever you feel like it. In 2025, a new UAE law was introduced stating that pedestrians who jaywalk across roads with speed limits of 80km/h or more could face a massive Dhs10,000 fine.
Chewing gum on the Metro
Snacking and chewing gum while using the Dubai Metro is a no-go. You could be fined Dhs100 for chewing gum on the Metro or in Metro areas.
Driving a dirty car
If your car is covered in dust for too long, you could be fined Dhs500 or more. Authorities consider excessively dirty cars a public health and visual pollution issue.
Sleeping on the Metro or in waiting areas
Need a nap? Probably not the best place. Sleeping inside Metro stations, waiting areas or onboard the Metro can result in a Dhs300 fine.
