We’re all curious about the next break on the calendar
Back at your desk after the long weekend and already wondering when the next UAE public holiday is? Here’s what we know…
The next one is most likely a few weeks away in August for Prophet Muhammad’s birthday (PBUH). The official date is Tuesday, August 25 but as per the new law, public holidays can be moved to the start or the end of the week to allow for a long weekend. This means the holiday could be moved to Monday, August 24, 2026, to make it a three-day long weekend for most of us.
However, we will have to wait for official announcements from the authorities, which will happen closer to the date, so stay tuned.
After August, the wait for the next UAE public holiday is going to be a long one.
It will fall in December for Eid Al Etihad (previously called Union Day and UAE National Day).
The official date for Eid Al Etihad is on December 2, which is a Wednesday. But the UAE usually celebrates for two days, stretching the celebration to December 3, which is a Thursday.
But remember, November 30 is Commemoration Day (previously known as Martyrs’ Day) – a Monday this year. The holiday was announced for November 30 to commemorate the death of Salem Suhail Khamis, who died on the same date in 1971 and is thought to be the first Emirati killed in military service since the formation of the UAE that year.
If the government approves this to be a day off, we could enjoy a very long weekend if December 1 is declared a public holiday as well. Which means we could be looking at a six-day-long weekend (and maybe even longer if December 4 is added on).
